Fall Break is officially less than one week away on October 5th - 9th! ⌛🍂

🐴🐖🐓🐄The third graders participated in Ag Day today brought to Harrison County by Purdue Extension. Got to explore the different components of agriculture, learn about ag safety, diesel mechanics, soil health, embryology, and so much more! 🥛🚜🌾👩🏼🌾

3rd grade turned their classroom into an apple orchard for a day! 🍎🍏 Students reviewed Quarter 1 math and ELA skills, taste-tested different apple varieties and apple juice, and had some fun with apple-themed games. A sweet way to wrap up our first quarter! 🍎

Attention South Harrison families!🚨 This is a friendly reminder that school is closed tomorrow, September 22nd for parent-teacher conferences!🏫📚

For our 5 Senses unit, our Pre-K friends enjoyed a fun nature walk! 🍃👀👂✋👃 We looked closely at the world around us, listened to the sounds in nature, felt different textures, smelled the fresh air, and talked about all the things we noticed. It was such a sweet way to explore, learn, and enjoy the outdoors together! 💚

A huge thank you to our PTO for purchasing STEM bins for our second graders! These hands-on activities allow students to explore, create, problem-solve, and learn through discovery. STEM is so important because it builds critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and perseverance skills that our students will use far beyond the classroom!

Operation day in 1st grade!
Students spent the day:
Tweezing achy breaky CVC hearts together.
Stitching together sentences.
Cutting up shapes into halves, thirds, and fourths.
Finally we looked at some plant slides under a microscope. We have some future doctors in our mix!!

3rd Grade-Our first unit was all about learning how different cultures have shaped and contributed to our communities. We learned about the history and meaning behind dream catchers, then wrapped up our unit by creating our own! A fun way to take what we learned and put it into practice. 🪶✨

📖✨ What’s in a name? Sometimes, it’s the beginning of a great story!
Our 6th graders recently took a short walk to our local cemetery as part of their narrative writing unit. Students searched tombstones for names that sparked their imaginations and then used those names as inspiration to create completely fictional characters.
From there, they imagined what their characters might look like, explored their personalities, strengths, and flaws, and even dreamed up the conflicts their characters might face in a story. ✍️💭
It was a unique way to take writing beyond the classroom and remind students that inspiration for a great story can be found almost anywhere! 📚✨
🔬📖 Learning doesn’t always have to happen inside the classroom!

🧬 🧲 🧑🚀 Learning science by DOING science!⚛️ 🧮
Our 5th graders have been getting hands-on with matter, physical properties, and physical vs. chemical changes! Through experiments, observations, and lots of scientific thinking, students are discovering what happens when matter changes.
🧠Our classroom has been full of curiosity, discovery, and plenty of “WOW!” moments! 🧠

Kindergarten had such a great day exploring worms! We compared gummy vs real worms to learn about living vs nonliving things, made our own compost bin (“worm hotel”), worked on our fine motor scissor skills to cut newspaper for bedding, made dirt pudding, and practiced our sequencing skills! 🪱
