Fifth grade just wrapped up an awesome quarter-long study of The One and Only Ivan!
Throughout the unit, students explored themes of friendship, freedom, and compassion while taking part in Socratic Seminars about the ethical treatment of animals. They also showed off their creativity in a STEM project, designing a suitable habitat for Ivan using design software.
To wrap it up, students enjoyed an immersive learning day all about gorillas, elephants, habitats, and the pros and cons of life in the wild versus the zoo—and even watched The One and Only Ivan movie to compare the book and film!
